Ground Water

Early Morning – Heading to the Field

The day begins before sunrise. Equipment is packed — water level meters, GPS devices, sampling bottles, laptops, and field notebooks.

By the time the sun rises, the team reaches villages, borewells, or monitoring stations. The cool morning air soon gives way to the heat of the field, but the work has already started.

Groundwater research isn’t done in offices — it starts on the ground, often in remote areas.

🛠️ Mid-Morning – Measuring Water Levels

At each well, the first task is to measure the depth to groundwater.

A water level indicator is lowered into the borewell until it touches water. A soft “beep” signals contact. The depth is recorded carefully.

These small numbers tell big stories:

  • Is the water table rising or falling?
  • Is over-pumping happening?
  • Is recharge improving after rainfall?
